Fishery resources in Ambon Bay have been well exploited by local people, however their sustainability should be paid attention seriously. One possible way to maintain the fisheries resources is to protect and sustain all coastal ecosystems along the Ambon Bay. In spite of the coastal ecosystems (mangrove, seagrass beds and coral reefs) of Ambon Bay have a very limited area, their capacity to support the sustainability of fisheries resources would be significant. Most all market fishes caught in Ambon Bay waters occupies the coastal ecosystems as a spawning, nursery or feeding ground. In this paper, the role of coastal ecosystem to carry the fishery resources of Ambon Bay would be discussed.
