Description
|
Baccaurea angulata or locally known as belimbing darah is an endemic fruit plant of Kalimantan. This plant is potential for fruit plant but not too popular and are being ignored by the local people. This may threaten the existence of belimbing darah. As a part of conservation effort, a research work on propagation of belimbing darah was conducted to study seed germination, grafting with Baccaurea macrocarpa and cuttings development of the plant. Treatment were given to the cuttings using Rooton-F paste and IBA 4000 ppm. The material used in this research was taken from five trees in Pagar Lebata, West Kalimantan. The result showed that seed can germinate in 12 days with viability up to 97.78 ± 3.85 %. There are significant differences in seed viability, rate of germination and days of seed start to germinate that may caused by different seed characteristic which lead to significant differences in seedling development. Grafting showed that the two species are not compatible. The cuttings also failed to develop. The material were not able to produce root. Result of the propagation were presumably effected by factors such as plant genetic character, its condition and the environment condition.
