Korosi merupakan masalah utama pada beton bertulang di wilayah pesisir. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ada dua, pertama untuk mengetahui perilaku korosi baja beton di lingkungan yang terkontaminasi air laut dan karbonat, kedua membandingkannya dengan baja beton dalam larutan yang terkontaminasi klorida. Terdapat berbagai variasi larutan simulasi beton dalam penelitian ini yaitu larutan simulasi beton (LSB), LSB yang dicampur air laut, LSB yang dicampur air laut dan ion karbonat, LSB yang dicampur dengan sodium klorida. Dua jenis air laut yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu air laut yang diambil di pantai Ancol dan air laut yang diambil di pelabuhan Muara Baru. Polarisasi potensiodinamik semua sampel dilakukan menggunakan alat CMS (corrosion monitoring system) Gamry Instruments. Hasil polarisasi potensiodinamik menunjukkan bahwa bahwa kontaminasi air laut atau klorida di dalam larutan simulasi beton meningkatkan secara signifikan laju korosi baja beton. Laju korosi meningkat meningkat tajam dengan meningkatnya konsentrasi klorida di dalam larutan. Laju korosi di dalam larutan yang mengandung air laut meningkat dengan penambahan karbonat dan terus meningkat seiring dengan meningkatnya konsentrasi karbonat. Korosifitas larutan yang mengandung air laut Muara Baru lebih tinggi dari pada korosifitas larutan yang mengandung air laut Ancol. Korosifitas air laut Ancol sedikit lebih rendah dari korosifitas larutan dengan kandungan NaCl 1,5 persen, sedangkan korosifitas air laut Muara Baru berada diantara korosifitas larutan yang mengandung NaCl 1,5 persen dan 3,.5 persen.
