Description
|
Use carried out a botanical expedition in Wamena at an elevation between 2000 up to 3500 m above sea level. Among the specimens collected, we distinguished Myrmecodia brasii (Rubiaceae) and Rhododendron mcgregroriae (Ericaceae) as promisce plant in the local ethnobotany. Rhododendron mcgregroriae is known by the people in this region to cure skin diseases and at the same time is used as poison. Myrmecodia brasii is less popular to be used by the locals, but the demand outside the island is high and therefore stimulated exploitation. M. brasii is believed to be to provide cure against cancer. R. macgregoriae was found in the forest at over elevation, growing in several forest types and savannah. M. brasii was island more abundant at higher altitude growing as epiphyte in the Nothofagus we elaborated these two medicinal plants in their habitat and provide the description in situ.
