Nepenthes gracilis is one species of pitcher plant found in East Kalimantan which has potential as a commercial ornamental plant. A study of the growing conditions of N. gracilis in its natural habitat in Samboja, East Kalimantan was undertaken. The study aimed to discover the characteristics which may support the conservation or development of this species as a commercial ornamental plant. 800 individual specimens were studied; consisting of 700 rosettes and 100 mature plants. The study found variations in leaf length, leaf width and leaf colour. The greatest size of leaf length is 5.1-10.0 cm and 1.1-2.0 cm in leaf width. The greatest number of leaf colour is reddish green in upper surface and light green to green in lower surface. It has also more variations in tendril length, pitcher size, peristome length, peristome width, lid length, lid width, and wing width. The greatest size of each variations were tendril length (4.1-6.0 cm), pitcher size (6.1-8.0 cm), pitcher above circle (4.1-6.0 cm), pitcher below circle (6.1-8.0 cm), peristome length (1.1-1.5 cm), peristome width (1.1-1.5 cm), lid length (1.1-1.5 cm), lid width (1.1-1.5 cm), and wing width (0.1-0.2 cm). It was founded variations in pitcher colour (27 variations in rosettes and 11 variations in mature plants). The natural habitat of N. gracilis was very specific, and it was also noted that 10 other species were associated with this plant species. Further result will be discussed in this paper.
